An Organic Story
In Chia, a small town near Bogotá (capital of Colombia), Amalia prepare and bake in her house, delicious cakes that were sold at different snack bars, natural stores and greengrocers.
Meanwhile in Bogotá, Julio worked as a human resources executive in a multinational company. Julio's enterprising spirit makes him to spend a complete year in London, where he had the opportunity to know different kind of food and nutrition habits, including the 'organic products'.
Once he arrived in Bogotá, and due to a chance meeting, Amalia and Julio had the opportunity to meet each other and talked about their "dreams", and they agree with the wish to have a restaurant, where their clients, besides obtain a balanced and nourishing food, they also be able to mix cultures in a special plate that taste art, observing the interior design and the music of the place.
First, they had to improve and develop the cake businesses and then be able to expend their time with the restaurant.
In order to become this dream true, they moved their cake manufacturing headquarters from Chia to an appropriate place in Bogotá city, they also transfer their first employee that was already trained in the "know-how" of the cake process and hired another person to help. With these two would be more than enough.
The cake business not only grows, but changes! They wanted to develop innovative products that also had a larger expiration date and with this idea in mind they star preparing cookies that replaced the cakes. They also start investigating and work with organic food.
Thru this work they learned that in Colombia there were already organic farmers, some certified and some others in the process. They also contact entities that certify organic products and after complete all requirements, they obtain their own certification as "ecological plant" by CCI (Corporacion Colombia Internacional).
At the beginning they commercialized their products in different fairs, kermises and events. Nowadays they commercialized their products in the largest supermarkets of the country, as well as in specialized (natural) stores.
In 2004, they obtained the prize as: "Best second micro-company of the year" by Fundación Compartir, they also obtained the
"Seal to the nacional Ecological food", by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In October of 2006 they got the first place in innovation, by Carrefur and Fedesarrollo and the
National Prize as the Environment Conservation.
Various marketing companies have been interested in import their product to Europe and other countries of the world, since Colombia has a variety of exotic fruits that makes this kind of organic food a very interesting product outside.
